How to plan a wedding reception

Friday, March 6th, 2009      Written by: theAssistant      { Marriage }

As I was searching for an old episode of Vern Yip’s Deserving Design on hulu.com, I found the following video instead.  My eyes were drawn to the introductory sentence.

Sometimes deciding where to get married is more complicated than deciding who to marry. Planning a reception is complicated. But Carley Roney, editor of TheKnot.com, has great advice to make planning the reception manageable.”

If you find this video helpful, then you may want to check out the rest of the wedding related videos on howdini.com.

and the winner is…

A while back we ran a photo contest and the winner is…

We have only one entry; however, instead of canceling the contest; we’re going to reward Greg for his time and effort.

Sadly, this will also conclude the end of contests for us.   Well, at least for now.

WellWed: {Shadow Lawn Wedding} Part 2

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009      Written by: theAssistant      { Marriage }

In Part 1 of this post we saw how Tammy executed her magic, in Part 2 we shall see theStoryteller’s magic.

I was fortunate enough to witness Tammy’s magic first hand. Her wedding was unforgettable. There was laughter, tears, sunshine, rain, thunder, lightning and most memorable was the double rainbow.   The setting at Shadow Lawn is simply magical.

A slice of our life

Saturday, February 14th, 2009      Written by: theAssistant      { Places }

We took advantage of one rare and warm winter weekend and went out on an outing.  We decided to have brunch at Ikea in Redhook, Brooklyn.  It is the ride to get to Redhook we are excited about.

Though a still a little cold, but the wind was very refreshing and welcomed.  The excursion recharged our energy and gave us new inspiration.  We put together this video to share our experience.  Life should not all be about work and no play, but a combination of both.  Sometimes it may be hard to realize that happiness is all around us.

We decided to walk to Pier 11 to catch the New York  Water Taxi to Ikea.  It was a pleasant surprise when we reached Chinatown; the parade commencing the end of Chinese New Year was going on.

We arrived at Pier 11 earlier than expected.  I was reading my book while waiting for the water taxi, but someone else had something else in mind and tried to get my attention.

After brunch, we did a little exploration in Redhook and watch the sun set before we call it a day.

WellWed: {Shadow Lawn Wedding} Part 1

Monday, February 9th, 2009      Written by: theAssistant      { Marriage }

Shortly after Tammy’s wedding, she called to tell us that her wedding photos will be published in WellWed Magazine.  One weekend while at the Union Square Greenmarket, we decided to go in to Barnes & Noble to warm up before we head home.   When we went to the magazine section, we spotted the Spring/Summer 2009 issue of WellWed immediately and decided to flip through it.  What a nice surprise!  Tammy’s pictures are in there.

Tammy Baldwin-Basten is a professional event planner and owner of Charmed Places in the Hudson Valley.  theStoryteller first met Tammy in Brittany & Chris’s wedding.  Tammy was the wedding coordinator for Brittany & Chris.  You can view an extraordinary sample of Tammy’s magic on our website (select Stories, then A Wedding in the Country).

Brides to be…don’t forget to read Tammy’s Tips for planning yourself.  Click here to read {Unveiled – Behind the scenes with Tammy Baldwin-Basten} on WellWed in New York’s website.
